A superb century by opener Deandara Dottin and a brilliant all-round performance from Hayley Matthews helped West Indies to a 45-run victory over Pakistan in the first ODI at the Karachi National Stadium on Monday.

Dottin hit 18 fours and two sixes in her innings of 132 off 146 balls as West Indies scored 253/8 off in 50 overs. It was a second ODI ton for the top-order batter who surpassed her previous best of 104 not out against Pakistan in the 2017 ODI World Cup. Matthews contributed 57 off 67 balls as she put up a 119-run stand with Dottin for the third wicket.

Left-arm spinner Anam Amin finally broke the partnership in the 42nd over by removing Matthews and then sent back Dottin in the 47th over. Amin also claimed the crucial wicket of Shemaine Campbelle (20 off 23) as she finished with her ODI best of 5-35. Fatima Sana (2-65) dismissed Qiana Joseph and Kyshona Knight as Pakistan stifled the Windies at the death.

In reply, Pakistan lost opener Sidra Ameen in the second over by Shakera Selman and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.  Iram Javed (40 off 34) and Kainat Imtiaz (24 off 60) put a half-century partnership but Matthews (3-31) removed the pair in quick succession as the hosts managed 208/9 in 50 overs.

The teams will face off in the second of the three-ODI series at same venue on Thursday.
