Dubai Capitals Become First Indian-Owned Team To Participate In Global Super League
The second edition of the tournament will be held from July 10 to 18 at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana.
The Global Super League (GSL), an invitation-only tournament started by the Guyana Cricket Board in 2024, will continue in 2025 as well, with Dubai Capitals becoming the first Indian-owned side to feature in it.
The current champions of the International League T20, UAE’s franchise cricket league, Dubai Capitals, will be one of the five teams in the competition. While last season, Rangpur Riders beat Cricket Victoria’s team in the final, to lift the trophy, this time around, instead of Cricket Victoria, Big Bash League (BBL) 2024–25 winners, Hobart Hurricanes have been invited.
Amongst the invitation recipients are Super Smash 2024–25 winners Central Stags as well.
Thus, the 2025 edition of the global league will see all the champion teams of their respective leagues play against defending champions Rangpur Riders, who are not the winners of their league, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 this time around, and the hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors, who finished second behind St Lucia Kings from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.
Clive Llyod, GSL chairman, in a message to the new team Dubai, said, "We look forward to welcoming the Dubai Capitals to Guyana for this year's GSL. Their reputation as ILT20 champions speaks volumes, and their inclusion will undoubtedly enhance the quality and spectacle of cricket on offer."
The second edition of the tournament will be held from July 10 to 18 at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana.
