Duleep Trophy 2025: Team India’s Latest Call-up Smashes 197 For South Zone

2025 is turning out to be a special year for the 29-year-old wicketkeeper from Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu star Narayan Jagadeesan’s stocks keep getting higher as the 29-year-old, today (September 5), played a statement knock in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2025, smashing 197 for South Zone against a strong North Zone attack.

Jagadeesan started day two on 148*, having brought up his 11th first-class hundred on the first day after South Zone had been asked to bat. He raced to 197 in the first session of day two, but agonizingly got run-out three short of what would have been a third double-hundred for him in first-class cricket.

In January last year, Jagadeesan smashed consecutive 200+ scores in the Ranji Trophy, posting 245* against Railways before following it up with a 321 against Chandigarh.

2025 is turning out to be a special year for the 29-year-old wicketkeeper from Tamil Nadu, who just over a month ago earned his maiden Test call-up, having been roped into the Indian side for the fifth Test against England at The Oval. Jagadeesan was roped in as Dhruv Jurel’s backup after both Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan got ruled out due to injury.

The right-hander now averages 49.58 in first-class cricket, and could potentially debut for India during the home summer, should both Pant and Jurel fail to recover in time.
