The purple patch of Abhimanyu Easwaran seems to be going on and on and on as the right-handed opener has just smashed his third ton in his last four first class innings.
Easwaran entered the Irani Cup having scored 309 runs in five innings in the Duleep Trophy, where, representing India B, he scored an unbeaten 157 against India C and then followed it up with a 116 against India D.
Picked for Rest of India to open alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 29-year-old, on Day 3 of the Mumbai clash, posted his 26th first class ton. He got to his hundred off just 117 balls and brought it up with a boundary off the bowling of Mohit Avasthi.
It’s been some 2024 in red-ball cricket so far for Easwaran. The ongoing Irani Cup clash is his ninth game this year and he’s already scored over 800 runs. The opener has hammered four hundreds this calendar year alone, with two of the knocks being an unbeaten 157 and an unbeaten 200.
The 29-year-old’s last nine first-class scores now read 102*, 19, 116, 157*, 13, 4, 200*, 65 & 72, which is an average of 124.83 since February 9, 2024.
As mentioned earlier, with the ton, Easwaran made it 26 centuries in first-class cricket. Since his debut in 2013, among Indians, only Cheteshwar Pujara (40) has smashed more tons in red-ball cricket.
