ECB announce revised 'single contracts' for 20 players

The contracts have not bee divided into red and white-ball contracts and it was done previously

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced contracts to 20 of its players under a single contract, not dividing them on the basis of red-ball or white-ball contracts as it was done previously.

The ECB have also awarded four England Increment Contracts and three England Pace Bowling Development Contracts, according to a release from ECB.

The ECB came up with this system in consultation with the players, Team England Player Partnership (TEPP) and the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA). "I would like to thank TEPP and the players for all their constructive input through the process of developing this new system, which I believe is the fairest and most transparent way of rewarding players across all formats," Ashley Giles, Director of England Cricket, said.

"We have worked well to get to this stage and the refinements made will take into account the amount of cricket we will be playing across formats over the next period of the ICC Future Tours Programme."

"This system has been developed keeping in mind the fact that all the players will be competing across formats in the next year and also recognises the players' performances over the past year."

Furthermore, this will also enable the players to cope much better with the schedule, which has been made even more challenging due to Covid-related constraints. Increment Contracts and Pace Bowling Development Contracts are given to players who could feature for England on a more sporadic basis.

Jack Leach, Dawid Malan and Ollie Robinson have received central contracts for the first time. "I would like to congratulate all the players offered agreements for the coming year, particularly newcomers Jack Leach, Dawid Malan, and Ollie Robinson. Receiving your first central contract is a great moment in any player's career. They will all play a pivotal role in England's fortunes over the next 12 months," Giles said.

The contracts are for a 12-month period, starting October 1, 2021.
