Ahead of the 2025 season of The Hundred, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have ditched the controversial batch of white Kookaburra balls after complaints of low scores. The decision came after the 2024 season saw the scoring rate dip to 1.37 runs/ball, which was significantly lower than the other franchise leagues.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the balls that were used for the first four seasons of The Hundred had the tournament’s logo - H - which gave the ball a ‘plasticky feel’. However, as per the ball-tracking data, the spike in movement and swing was attributed to pitches, weather and the format.
Irrespective of it, the ECB have decided to ditch the Hundred balls, and instead are going to be using the same batch of Kookaburra balls from the T20 Blast for the entire season. The 2025 edition didn’t get off to the best of starts, as London Spirits, despite having big names such as Kane Williamson and David Warner, were bowled out for 80.
