Follow UsEe Saala Cup Namde, a phrase that has been doing rounds for the last 15 years, finally came true as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally won their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title, beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3 (Tuesday).
Reacting to it, Rajat Patidar, the first-time captain of RCB, said the famous words eventually, while speaking in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“I just want to say one line to all the fans - Ee sala cup namdu,” Patidar said before adding, “It is really special for me, for Virat Kohli, and all the fans. Those who have supported us for years all deserve it. It's a great opportunity for me and a great learning for me to captain Kohli. He deserves it more than anyone else.”
On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the PBKS, said that he was dejected, but his team will definitely come back next year and win the trophy.
“Considering the last game we played here, I felt 200 was par personally. Proud of each individual in our team, a lot of youngsters played their first season. The job is still half done, we have to win it next year.”
Krunal Pandya was named Player of the Match [POTM] and became only the first player in the league’s history to win POTMs in two IPL finals. Reacting after the win, he mentioned that the Pandya household will now have nine IPL trophies, five of Hardik’s and four for Krunal. Pandya picked up two wickets for 17 runs to help RCB win.
“My biggest strength has been to learn what the situation requires. I knew I had to be brave to get wickets tonight. Thought I'd do that by bowling slowly. If you bowled quickly, it'd have been a good wicket. I said on day one I wanted to win. I told Hardik that the Pandya household will have nine trophies in 11 years,” he said.
