The tragic crash of an Air India flight headed from Ahmedabad to London, right after departure from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, sent shockwaves across the world as 274 people lost their lives, which included a total of 181 Indian citizens and 53 British nationals.
To pay respect to the people who lost their lives and show solidarity to the grieving families in both countries, players of the cricket teams from England and India, who begin their five-match Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025 with the first Test starting on June 20 (Friday) at Hedingley, Leeds, will observe a minute's silence and wear black armbands.
Earlier, India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant, in a pre-match press conference, said that the players will try and put in their best efforts to make India happy again after the Ahmedabad horror.
“What happened with the aircraft: The whole of India was saddened by it. The only thing from our side, we’re going to be sticking to how we can make India happy again,” he said.
Right after the crash, the teams of Australia and South Africa, playing the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in London, had also observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect to the deceased.
