India are at the top of their game as England are struggling big time in the second Test between the two teams at Edgebaston. At the end of Day 4’s play, the hosts were three down with vice captain Ollie Pope and white-ball captain Harry Brook at the crease.
England lost the key wickets of Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley and most importantly Joe Root, resulting in a lot of pressure on the hosts ahead of Day 5.
However, there is one saviour that England would hope can do wonders for them. In the summer of 2023, rain had deprived England of a win against Australia and thereby Ashes win at home when rain interrupted the proceedings at Old Trafford and the match ended in a draw.
At Edgbaston, England would be hoping for rain so that they could save themselves from losing their first match in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
According to the BBC’s weather report as well as Accuweather, showers are expected early on in the morning, with rain percentage (probability of rain) in Edgbaston going down from 79 percent at 7 am local time in the morning to 22 percent at 1 pm local time. The match will begin at 10:30 am local time.
It means that if it does rain by 1 pm local time, then the match will most likely start after lunch on the final day, giving England enough time to fight for the draw.
The temperatures will remain low and below 20 degrees Celsius mostly while the cloud cover will be there throughout the day’s play, helping the bowlers. India will have a fair chance of taking the remaining seven wickets to win their first-ever Test in history at Edgbaston.
