Harry Brook looked set to ride his luck on his way to a century during the first Test at Headingley, but Prasidh Krishna got the better of the England batter on 99. Brook looked to pull the ball away and get to his ninth Test century, but he mistimed it straight to Shardul Thakur at fine-leg.
In doing so, Brook has joined an unwanted list where he became only the second England batter in Test history to be dismissed on 99 against India.
Marcus Trescothick, Ahmedabad, 2001
Harry Brook, Leeds, 2025
Brook is also just the third batter to be dismissed one short of a century at Headingley.
Saleem Malik (PAK) vs ENG, 1987
Michael Atherton (ENG) vs SA, 1994
Harry Brook (ENG) vs IND, 2025
Brook was dropped twice on Day 3 and Day 2 after being caught for a duck off a no-ball from Jasprit Bumrah. Safe to say he rode his luck well, but will be disappointed after he came agonisingly close to another Test century.
This was his 20th 50-plus score in Tests, the most for any batter since he debuted in September 2022.
