Joe Root already has the most runs and most centuries for England. He has registered yet another record during the first Test against England at Headingley. He scored his 12th fifty in the fourth innings, making him the first Englishman to get to that landmark, going past Alastair Cook's 11. He got to his fifty off 84 deliveries.
Only Graeme Smith (12), Chris Gayle (13) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (13) have more Test fifties in the fourth innings.
Root has 10 fifties and two centuries in the fourth innings. Herbert Sutcliffe, Ben Stokes, Graham Gooch and Geoffrey Boycott are the only England cricketers to have scored more Test centuries than Root.
Root did not fare well in the first innings of the first Test against India, managing just 28, before edging it to Karun Nair at first slip. However, in pursuit of 371, Root has scored a vital fifty as they look to register one of the highest successful Test chases.
Earlier in this game, he pouched his 210th catch in Test cricket, going level with Rahul Dravid. He is also among the top five run-getters in Test history and could potentially end the series in the top two.
