England cricketers, who are currently in the UAE for the Women's T20 World Cup, are set to get a 30 per cent pay rise when the contracts are drawn up in October, according to a report on the Guardian. This move comes after the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) offered their men's cricketers a multi-year deal last year. Furthermore, England flew to the UAE after agreeing to the new deals, which are expected to be in the range of £90,000 and £130,000, depending on the experience. Many of them have also reportedly been given two-year deals.
All of Heather Knight's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup are expected to receive new contracts. This comes after a deal was struck between the ECB and the Professional Cricketers’ Association.
Furthermore, the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) was also critical of the ECB, with their investigations finding that “women receive an embarrassingly small amount compared to men."
England, who won the inaugural edition of the Women's T20 World Cup in 2009, get their 2024 campaign underway against Bangladesh on October 5 in Sharjah. Before that, they play a couple of warm-up matches against Australia on September 29 (Sunday) and New Zealand on October 1 (Tuesday).
