England counties offer to host IPL in September in UK

MCC, Surrey, Warwickshire, and Lancashire have offered to host the tournament in England

Following a sudden postponement of the IPL 2021 due to a host of cases inside the bio-bubble, there is a chance that the tournament will be played before the T20 World Cup in September. Even though UAE, which is a back-up option for the T20 World Cup, is mulled as the possible option, MCC, Surrey, Warwickshire and Lancashire have offered to host the tournament in England - just after the conclusion of the India-England Test series.

ESPNCricinfo reported that counties point out that it would not only help give all the players a chance to play some high-quality cricket, but also allow the pitches in UAE to remain fresh ahead of the mega-event.

Most BCCI officials, including President Sourav Ganguly, have remained tight-lipped about the September window but there are possible obstacles on the way. India will complete their England assignment on September 14 but with England slated to play Pakistan a month later, it will be a concern for them as well.

Caribbean Premier League is also slated at the backend of August, which means the BCCI will have to scramble through to find an exclusive window to host their event.
