England names left-arm pacer David Payne for West Indies T20Is

Payne was picked for the England's ODI squad against Pakistan earlier this year

England named uncapped left-arm seamer David Payne in their 16-player T20I squad for the West Indies series. Payne was picked for the ODI series against Pakistan in July this year after the first-choice squad was forced to isolate due to covid-19 outbreak, but didn't play a single game.

The 30-year old played Welsh Fire in the inaugural season of The Hundred where he claimed six wickets. England, who will have Paul Collingwood as the stand-in coach for the series, named 11 players who were part of the T20 World Cup squad.

"We have selected a strong squad with some serious batting power and a balanced attack as we begin preparations ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia," Collingwood said. "The World Cup is less than a year away and there will be increased opportunities for the squad in the absence of those players who are with the Ashes squad.

Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Tom Curran and David Willey are the key players who will miss the series.

"I have good memories winning a World Cup in Barbados and I'm really looking forward to going back there with this squad to face a very good West Indies who will test all aspects of our skills," he added.

The five-match series will be played from January 22-30. The Test squad for the subsequent three-Test series will be named at a later date.

England's squad for West Indies T20Is: Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Liam Dawson, George Garton, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Tymal Mills, David Payne, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, James Vince.
