England, Not India, Set To Host Next Three WTC Finals: Reports
England seems to have thwarted India’s attempt to be the favourites for hosting the next three WTC final
England have emerged as the favourites to host the next three World Test Championship (WTC) finals as per the reports in The Telegraph.
India were also in contention to be the potential hosts of the finals; however, the International Cricket Council (ICC) are buoyant after splendid ticket sales at Lord’s for the ongoing WTC final between South Africa and Australia. According to The Telegraph, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officials have already been informed verbally about the ICC’s intentions to make England the host for the next three finals.
It was earlier understood that India would push to host the WTC final. With Jay Shah becoming ICC Chairman and Sanjog Gupta the ICC CEO, it was assumed that the hosting rights for the final would be given to India. However, the reports suggest otherwise.
The three WTC finals so far have been held at three different venues in England, with the first final in 2021 between India and New Zealand played at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The second final between Australia and India was played at the Kia Oval in London, and the ongoing third one is being held at Lord’s.
It hasn’t yet been finalised where the next three finals will take place in England; however, the enthusiastic response at Lord’s in the ongoing final might motivate the ICC to consider it as a potential host.
