England pick pacer George Garton for Sri Lanka ODIs

England has called up Sussex pacer George Garton for the upcoming ODIs against Sri Lanka

England has named left-arm pacer George Garton for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka scheduled from 29 June to 4 July.

The likes Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Moeen Ali and Sam Billings, who were rested for the Test series against New Zealand after returning from IPL 2021, were included in the 16-man squad while the likes of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes are still missing out.

While Archer is recovering from the surgery to his elbow he suffered during country cricket last month, head coach Chris Silverwood confirmed that Stokes will return to country cricket with Durham having recovered from a fractured finger.

"If everything goes to plan, I hope he could be available for selection for the T20 series against Pakistan next month," Silverwood said in a media release by England and Wales Cricket Board.

"He has been a significant part of Sussex’s bowling unit in white-ball cricket for an extended period. His ability to bowl quick with his point of difference being a left-armer certainly gives us options in this series, and he deserves his chance at this level," Siverwood said of Garton.

The first ODI between England and Sri Lanka will be played at Durham on 29 June, with the second match to be played at 1 July at the Oval followed by the final ODI to be played at Bristol on 4 July.

England squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Eoin Morgan (Captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, George Garton, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
