England Women suffered a heavy defeat against the Indian team in the first T20I in Nottingham, which was led by skipper Smriti Mandhana, who scored a splendid 112 off just 62 deliveries.
However, the pain of their defeat worsened for England as they were found to be two overs short of the required number of overs to be bowled in their allotted time, despite accounting for time allowances.
ICC Match Referee Helen Pack issued a penalty, which would be 10% of the match fees, and will apply to the entire playing XI. On-field Umpires Jacqueline Williams and James Middlebrook levied these charges along with third umpire Sue Redfern and fourth umpire Anna Harris.
The offence, which falls under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, deals with minimum over-rate offences. Under the rule, players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
English skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt has accepted the charges after pleading guilty, thus waiving the need for any appeal or hearing.
Earlier in the game, England allowed India to score 210/5 courtesy a maiden T20I century by Mandhana and some high-intensity batting from Harleen Deol. The spinners did the job in the chase for India as England were bowled out for just 113 in 14.5 overs, with the debutant left-arm spinner Shree Charani picking up 4/12.
India lead the five-T20I series 1-0 after this win. The second game will be played in Bristol from 11 PM IST on Tuesday, July 1.
