The larger Mumbai Metropolitan Region is quickly becoming the country's central axis of Women’s cricket. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, the upcoming England Women’s Tour of India, which involves three T20s and a Test Match, will be held at the Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium.
The three T20s scheduled for December 6, 9, and 10 will be held at the Wankhede in Mumbai, whereas the lone Test match from December 14-17 is set to be hosted at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The last Australia Women's Tour to India and the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League were held in the same venues and saw some well-attended games. It is understood that enthusiastic crowd participation might be why these games are held in the same venue despite the plethora of international cricket stadiums available nationwide.
ESPNcricinfo also reported that the upcoming England series will likely be preceded by a three-match T20 series of the England A side in late November. Many England women players are currently involved in the Women’s Big Bash League, and they might only come after the tournament's final, which is scheduled for December 2nd.
This will also be the first international assignment for the new head coach of India, Amol Mazumdar, who the BCCI recently appointed.
The Australian Women’s side is also bound to travel to India just after England. Code Sports earlier reported that the Tour, comprising a Test match and an ODI and T20 series, will be held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
