Explosive Indian Batter Signs Short-Term Deal With Nottinghamshire
Ishan Kishan becomes the third Indian in the last week to sign a County contract, after Gaikwad and Tilak
In a bid to renew his Test career, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has signed a short-term deal with Nottinghamshire. Kishan has been signed as a replacement for Kyle Verreynne, who will be away for South Africa’s two-match Test assignment against Zimbabwe.
Kishan becomes the third Indian batter to sign a county contract, following the footsteps of Ruturaj Gaikwad (Yorkshire) and Tilak Varma (Hampshire). While Kishan’s white-ball stocks are much more favourable, his red-ball numbers are quite underrated, with 3447 runs, which includes 17 half-centuries and eight centuries.
"I'm feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills," Kishan said. "I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills."
Kishan’s first gig for Nottinghamshire will be up against Yorkshire, where he’s likely to be up against Pakistan’s opening batter Abdullah Shafique. As it stands, Nottinghamshire lead the Division One points table, with four wins out of seven games.
"Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there," he added.
