Fakhar Zaman enters top two in ICC Men's ODI batter rankings

Back-to-back tons in the first two ODIs against New Zealand have pushed Fakhar Zaman to second spot in the rankings, with only Babar Azam now ahead of him

On the back of his stunning showing in the first two ODIs of the three-match series against New Zealand, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has moved to second spot in the ICC Men's ODI batter rankings. Zaman started the series at fifth spot, but back-to-back tons in the first two ODIs (117 in the first followed up with an unbeaten 180* in the second) has seen the southpaw climb three spots to move up to second. Zaman now has 784 rating points, but he is still 103 shy of Babar Azam (887 points), who has a huge lead at the top.

However, while Fakhar has broken into the top three, his opening partner Imam-ul-Haq has fallen two spots and has slipped to fifth. He is, in the updated rankings, one point shy of Shubman Gill (738), who retains fourth spot.

On the bowling front, Josh Hazlewood retains top spot, but Shaheen Afridi has slipped two places to fall to 10th. Shaheen featured in the first of the two ODIs and was expensive, conceding 63 off his 10 overs while taking two wickets. Afghanistan’s Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan have both moved up one slot each thanks to Shaheen’s slip.

Mohammed Siraj (691) remains second, 14 points shy of Hazlewood (705), but Mitchell Starc has overtaken Trent Boult to break into the top three.

In the all-rounder’s rankings, meanwhile, the biggest mover is Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood, who has jumped three spots and has entered the top five on the back of his fine all-round showing against UAE, where he scored 40 with the bat and took 4/32 with the ball.
