Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Delhi Capitals in Match 34 of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday (April 24). The two teams are currently at the bottom of the points table. Delhi finally got a win in their last encounter after losing their first five games, while SRH have won only two of their six games so far.
Ground details
The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium has hosted three matches this season and batters here have scored runs at an average of 25.4 and a scoring rate of 8.4, while a wicket has fallen every 18 deliveries. This is one of those rare Indian venues with bigger boundaries. The seamers (average 26.8, SR 19, ER 8.5) here have slightly better numbers than spinners (average 28, SR 20.6, ER 8.2).

Stats that matter
We finally saw the best of David Warner in DC’s last game against Kolkata Knight Riders. This season, the left-handed opener has hit 285 runs in six innings at an average of 47.50 and a strike rate of 120.76. You don’t associate that SR with Warner, but in the last match, the Australian batter smashes 57 off 41 on a tricky surface.
Aiden Markram started this season with a duck but has got starts in his last four games - 37*, 50, 22 and 12. SRH don’t have a single batter with more than 160 runs this season and would want a lot more contribution from their captain. In 20 T20s this year, Markram has 574 runs at an average of 35.88 and a strike rate of close to 140.
Harry Brook did smash 100* off 55 against Kolkata but has only managed 56 runs in the remaining five innings.
Grand League punts
Mayank Markande has been very good this season, having picked up eight wickets at an economy rate of 6.3 and a strike rate of 12. Moreover, Delhi have been the second-worst team against spin this season, having operated at an average of just 17.1. Their scoring rate of 7.2 is the worst.
You would expect Axar Patel to come good against SRH, filled with right-handed batters. The left-arm spinner hasn’t picked up too many wickets in IPL 2023 but the bigger boundaries in Hyderabad will always keep him in play. If not with this bowling, Axar can also contribute with the bat, having smashed 148 runs @ 29.6 and an SR of 148 this season.
The likes of Rahul Tripathi and Mitchell Marsh haven’t done much with the bat this season but you can always take a punt on them, considering how good they have been in this format.
