Players to watch out for
Aaron Jones: The USA vice-captain started off the T20 World Cup with a thunderous unbeaten 94 off just 40 deliveries to take his side home against Canada - his first fifty since 2021. He showed his prowess by playing shots all around the park and made a mockery of Canada's target. Jones is a pleasing player to watch when on song, and is also the second-highest run-getter for the USA in T20Is. He will be one of the key batters against Pakistan for sure.
Shaheen Afridi: The Pakistan pacer has been in terrific form of late and is also the leading wicket-taker in T20Is this year. While USA beat Bangladesh and Canada in a bilateral series, they will be up against one of the best in the world - someone who can nail the yorkers and also swing the ball in and away early on. Afridi's 27 wickets this year have come at an economy rate of 8.09, striking once every 10.92 deliveries and 14.74 runs apart, which are outstanding numbers.
Babar Azam: There are ZERO reasons why you should not pick Babar Azam in your team. He is the leading run-getter in T20s this year with 1,358 runs at a strike rate of 136.48, having slammed 14 50-plus scores in 31 innings. He has been in top form for Pakistan as well, having hit 30+ in five of his last six innings, with fifties in three of them.
Key Battles
Andries Gous vs Shaheen Afridi
Majority, if not all, from the US would have not faced someone of the caliber of Shaheen Afridi, who is sure to wreak some havoc early in the innings. Gous, who played a hanndy knock of 65 off 46 in the T20 World Cup opener, has been dismissed four times by left-arm pacers in T20s since 2023. Gous has managed to score at a strike rate of 29.1 against them and has a decent average of 25.5. It could be an interesting contest early on.
