Stats that matter

DC have been the worst team against spin this season. They have lost the most wickets (37), have the worst run-rate (7.2) and have the worst average (20.6) against the spinners in IPL 2023. With the ball, DC have been the most economical team this season, with an economy of 7.2.

While David Warner has struggled against Sam Curran in T20 cricket, scoring at a strike-rate of 98 in six innings, he has been excellent against left-arm seamers in IPL 2023. He has scored at a strike-rate of 159 and an average of 94 against them. Given Curran's poor form this season, we could see the DC captain come out on top in this battle. Not to forget, another left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh's performance too has dropped, having picked up just three wickets in his last five games, compared to 13 he managed in the first seven.

Nathan Ellis has managed to keep Kagiso Rabada out of the XI this season consistently. He has gone wicketless just once in IPL 2023 so far. He is just one of three bowlers this season to have picked up at least three wickets this season. His best phase has been at the death, where he has picked up five of his 12 wickets, striking once every 12 deliveries. He also has four scalps in the powerplay and three in the middle-overs.

Grand League Punts

Jitesh Sharma has been a revelation for Punjab this season with many reckoning that an India call-up is not too far away. However, what has been interesting this season is that he has fared a lot better when he has come in the second half of the innings. When he has walked into bat before 11 overs, he has scored 144 runs at 20.6 along with a strike-rate of 132 (BPB 5.5). However, when he has come in to bat after 11 overs, his 121 runs have come at an average of 30.3 and a strike rate of 209 (BPB 3.4).

Ishant Sharma had the best IPL season in terms of striking regularly. He has picked up a wicket once every 16.5 deliveries, which is his personal best across seasons.

Harpreet Brar has picked up seven wickets in the middle-phase at an impressive economy rate of 6.2 - which is the best for a spinner this season. Fast bowler Mohit Sharma with an economy rate of 5.7 is the only bowler who has fared better than the orthodox spinner.
