Fantasy: Trust Lanning, Deepti and Harris to deliver the big bucks

Here are a few tips that could help you create your fantasy XI for Match 5 of WPL 2023 between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz

If anything, both teams are on the same number of points after one game. But they have got those two crucial points in the most contrasting of fashions. While Delhi Capitals annihilated the Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriorz needed an innings of a lifetime from Grace Harris to turn things around in their fixture against the wounded Gujarat Giants.

It will be the clash of the two Australian captains – Meg Lanning and Alyssa Healy – for the first time in the competition, and expect some feisty sub-plots in the encounter, that is set to entertain everyone.

Ground Details

Thus far only two matches have been played at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, and both of them have been high-scoring encounters. Mumbai Indians kicked-off the carnage at the venue, scoring 207 in the very first game. UP Warriorz then, in the second game at the venue chased down 175, thanks to the brilliance from Harris.

So, expect it to be yet another batting paradise. Having said that, there will be help for the bowlers, as Kim Garth and Nat Sciver Brunt have found out thus far. 16 wickets have been picked by pacers while the spinners have picked up 11 wickets. There is definite help for the bowlers but that will require them to bowl at the right channel. But generally, it is a venue where runs do flow.

Suggested TeamWhile you could go for the above team, you can also choose your team from Cricket.com’s Fantasy Research Centre. You can use this tool to build your team with the help of algorithms. Then, based on your preferences, the platform will guide you through creating the ideal fantasy XI.

Captaincy Suggestion

For Small leagues: Meg Lanning (captain), Deepti Sharma (vice-captain)

For Grand leagues: Alice Capsey (captain), Grace Harris (vice-captain)

Stats that matter

-    Till March 6th before the clash between MI and RCB, Shafali Verma was the leading run-scorer in the competition, with 84 runs, coming at a strike-rate of 186.7. In the clash against RCB, Shafali started the innings slow, with a strike-rate of 140 but as the innings progressed, jumped massively to a strike-rate of 233. Warriorz’ would want her gone soon.

-    Both teams possess quality hitters in the form of Marizanne Kapp and Grace Harris. If Harris in the game against the Giants struck at 226.9, Kapp wasn’t any different in the clash against RCB, with a strike-rate of 229.4. So, expect some fireworks in the middle of the order, and that ideally should lead to a high-scoring encounter.

Grand League punts

-    The sheer number of talents present in this clash is lob-sided in the competition. Both teams possess some quality talents, and that definitely will play at the back of your mind. But there’s a player that often goes under the radar – Alice Capsey – and backing her could really help your team. One of the much-improved batters, Capsey really has the ability to capsize a bowling unit. In 27 innings since 2022, the English cricketer has scored 610 runs, with a strike-rate of 131. She’s also scored 302 runs for the national side while picking up the one wicket. On Sunday (March 5), she showed what she can offer with the ball, making her an interesting pick.

-    Everyone knows about Grace Harris at this point in women’s cricket and her batting style usually is the riskiest of types in fantasy. When she clicks (that’s on most occasions now), she is a destruction waiting to happen. That’s exactly what the Giants experienced first-hand. In 33 T20Is, Harris has scored 334 runs while maintaining a strike-rate of 173, something that hasn’t been heard a lot in women’s cricket. So, join the bandwagon and back her to win you fantasy points.
