Fawad Alam moves to USA to pursue further cricketing career
37-year-old Fawad Alam finally bids goodbye to Pakistan cricket after quite an international career
Despite making his debut way back in 2007, Fawad Alam’s career in the Pakistani green was sporadic. His domestic struggles vividly illustrate his journey, playing just 19 Tests, 38 ODIs and 24 T20Is. The left-hander has called it time from Pakistan cricket and now has his focus on the United States of America.
The 37-year-old will now turn up as a local player for the club, Chicago Kingsmen in Minor League Cricket T20, joining a long list of already existing Pakistani players - Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Saif Badar and Mohammad Mohsin - in the country.
The left-hander, who was dropped from the Pakistani setup back in 2009, vowed to make a comeback to the national team in the whites. Thus started a First-Class journey of 11 years, where he scored a truckload of runs, averaging a mighty 55, which forced the selectors to bring him back to the national setup.
On his return, the left-hander scored a brilliant century against New Zealand before notching up hundreds against South Africa, Zimbabwe and West Indies. Just as and when it looked like the southpaw would take his career upward and onwards, his technique was found out by a testing Australian bowling unit in early 2022, after which he has been dropped from the setup.
The left-hander could only manage 33 runs in four innings and was never picked in the squad. Alam now retires from Pakistan's domestic scene, with 14,000 runs in domestic cricket in 201 first-class games over 19 years, being a trendsetter for his technique, grit and determination.
