Fazalhaq Farooqi registers best bowling figures in ILT20 history

Fazalhaq Farooqi, on January 11 (Saturday), registered the best bowling figures in the history of International League T20 (ILT20). 

The left-arm seamer from Afghanistan, who will play for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, claimed 5/16 against Dubai Capitals in Dubai.

In the first game of the third edition of the ILT20, the MI Emirates seamer broke the back of the Capitals’s batting unit.

The left-arm seamer started his wicket tally by getting rid of Shai Hope in the fourth over of the innings and then came back in the final overs to pick up four more wickets.

Brandon McMullen, who top scored for the Capitals with 58 off 42, became Farooqi’s second victim. The pacer then got rid of Rovman Powell, Dasun Shanaka and Olly Stone to complete his five-wicket haul.

Apart from Farooqi, David Wiese and Naveen-ul-Haq are the only two other bowlers to have a five-fer in the ILT20. Both pacers picked five-fers in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2023.
