First batch of Indian players leave for the T20 World Cup

Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were not part of this group

The upcoming final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will not feature any Indian player from the 15-member squad selected to represent India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United States of America and West Indies beginning June 2.

Yesterday, May 26, the first batch of Indian players left for the World Cup in their new travel gear designed by Adidas, Team India’s official jersey sponsor.

The group included Skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T Dilip, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Suraj, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja along with Shubman Gill and Khaleel Ahmed (who are travelling reserves for the World Cup).

Notably, Virat Kohli wasn’t part of this group. He played the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad on May 22 and will travel to the US soon as India plays their only warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1 in New York.

Meanwhile, the Times of India reported that Hardik Pandya is in London and he will join the team from there.

Team India will play its first game of the World Cup on June 5 against Ireland in the newly minted modular stadium in Eisenhower Park of New York’s Nassau County. Later, on June 9, the biggest clash of the World Cup, India vs. Pakistan, is scheduled to take place on the same ground.
