It's not every day that the Bahrain cricket team makes headlines in the cricketing world, but March 14 (Friday) was an exception as the team from the Middle East became the first in international cricket to be unable to score even a single run in the Super Over.
With Bahrain finishing on 0/2 in the Super Over against Hong Kong during the Malaysian Tri-Series in Kuala Lumpur, it became the first instance of a team being unable to score in the one-over shoot-out to decide the winner, since the introduction of the rule in 2009.
In the full match, Hong Kong, batting first, posted 129/7 with the help of Shahid Wasif’s 31 off 25 balls. Bahrain, in reply, could make 129/8 in their 20 overs, and the match went into the Super Over.
However, in the one-over shoot-out, Bahrain’s opener Ahmer Bin Nasir and number three Sohail Ahmed were removed on consecutive deliveries by Ehsan Khan as the team could not make even a single run. In the end, Hong Kong chased it down with three balls to spare.
