Five moments that shaped CSK's third victory at Chepauk in IPL 2024

Missed the game, or were you too bored to follow a low-scoring encounter? Don't worry. We got you covered with the recap of Match 22 between CSK and KKR

Narine and Raghuvanshi’s rollicking start

The game started with Phil Salt’s wicket off the first ball, but when the powerplay ended, Kolkata Knight Riders were right on top and had scored 56 runs in 35 balls. Sunil Narine scored two sixes and three fours to score 27(20) with a dodgy shoulder, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24 off 18) supported him ably. Things were looking up rosy for KKR at that stage.

Jadeja’s spin web traps KKR

Ravindra Jadeja came on to bowl the seventh over and dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi LBW off his first ball itself. He used the grip and turn naturally available on the pitch and mixed it with wide deliveries to crush KKR’s batting momentum. He cleaned up Narine by bowling wide. His third scalp was also of a left-hander, Venkatesh Iyer. He also picked his 100th catch in the IPL this game.

Mustafizur and Deshpande’s wily bowling

Mustafizur Rahman is known for using his cutters on slow tracks in Bangladesh, and he got a similar track at Chepauk. He wreaked havoc as his cutters gripped and turned like a high-paced off-spinner. He finished with 2/22 and earned the Purple cap.

Meanwhile, Tushar Deshpande showed his skills with figures of 3/33 with some clever bowling. Similar to Mustafizur, he also used wide deliveries and change-ups quite cleverly.

KKR batters and their trundling pace

Except for Narine and Raghuvanshi, none of the KKR batters could score at a strike rate over 110. The pitch was tricky with its slow nature; however, even set batters like Shreyas Iyer (34 off 32) failed to accelerate and perished. That ensured that KKR couldn’t score more than 137/9 in 20 overs despite having Andre Russell at number eight.

Ruturaj and Mitchell’s partnership

CSK lost Rachin Ravindra early in the fourth over at the score of 27, but then Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell combined to stitch up a 70-run partnership in 55 balls. That ensured that CSK completed the chase in just the 17th over without any trouble.
