Former Aussie Spinner Found Guilty In Drug Deal Case

The decision was taken by a New South Wales District Court after eight days of trial

Partner of legendary Shane Warne with the ball, former Australian leg-spinner Stuart MacGill was found guilty in a drug deal in Sydney on March 13 (Thursday). The deal took place in MacGill’s restaurant located in the northern part of the city and between his brother-in-law and a local drug dealer.

According to media reports, the deal, worth Australian dollars 330,000, was for 1 kg of cocaine, which was bought by Marino Sotiropoulos, brother of MacGill’s partner and the dealer.

However, instead of framing him as one of the co-accused, the jury said that MacGill did introduce the two parties at his restaurant, but he might not have been aware of the extent of the amount involved in the deal.

The decision was taken by a New South Wales District Court after eight days of trial.

The 54-year-old, who played 44 Tests and six ODIs, admitted to regularly buying half a gram of cocaine for 200 Australian dollars from the same dealer who did business with Sotiropoulos.

The deal for which MacGill was found guilty took place four years ago, in 2021.
