Former Australia Batter Michael Slater Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison
Slater will, however, walk free as his term has been partly suspended after being in custody for 12 months
Former Australia batter Michael Slater has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges. However, Slater, who has been in custody for 12 months, will walk free as his term has been partly suspended.
Slater, who was refused bail a little over a year ago, was charged with multiple offences of domestic violence between December 2024 and April 2024 at Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Assault, strangulation, burglary and stalking in relation to multiple incidents against a woman were some of the charges levelled against the 55-year-old.
"It's obvious that you are an alcoholic. Your rehabilitation will not be easy, alcoholism is part of your make-up," Judge Glen Cash told Slater during the sentencing on April 22 (Tuesday).
After Slater pleaded guilty to charges including common assault and attempted stalking at a Sydney Court in 2022, he was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order, which is a non-custodial punishment in Australia.
Slater played 74 Tests for Australia between 1993 and 2001 and scored over 5,000 runs, including 14 hundreds. He also scored nine fifties in 42 One-Day Internationals (ODI) for his country.
Since his retirement, he has had various commentary stints until the Seven Network axed him in 2021.
