With a heartbreaking 22-run loss in the third Test at Lord's, India are 1-2 down in the five-match Test series against England. A win at Old Trafford in the next Test will set up an exciting finale.
However, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be available for just one of the last two Tests as the Indian team management wants to manage his workload. Former England spinner Monty Panesar feels Bumrah should play the Manchester Test as it is a pitch with the most pace and bounce in the country.
"Jasprit Bumrah should play the next match. It is a must-win match for India. They need to play their best attack. Bumrah has to play the next Test. It is the pitch with the most pace and bounce in the country, so he has to play," Panesar told ANI, as reported by the Times of India.
Panesar also expressed surprise that left-armer Arshdeep has not played in the series yet. "I am surprised he didn’t play the first Test. He brings good angles and will be effective in English conditions," the spinner added.
After losing the first Test at Headingley by five wickets, India bounced back at Edgbaston to claim a 336-run victory. They were within touching distance of taking a lead in the series at Lord's. They will enter the Old Trafford Test against England, starting July 23, in a bid to level the series again.
