Former ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat has been appointed the commissioner of America's National Cricket League (NCL). This move is intended to boost cricket's popularity in the USA.
Lorgat was in charge at the ICC between 2008 and 2012 and played a significant role in developing the Decision Review System (DRS), expanding anti-corruption measures, and promoting cricket in associate countries.
"With the prestigious ICC endorsement, Haroon Lorgat's visionary leadership, and our strategic partnership with SEE Holdings championing sustainability, we are already reshaping the future of cricket in America," NCL chairman Arun Agarwal said.
The NCL is expected to have Shahid Afridi, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan, Robin Uthappa, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Chris Lynn, Angelo Mathews and Colin Munro participating in the tournament. Moreover, former Pakistan stalwarts Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Akram will be seen in the tournament as mentors and coaches.
The NCL will host a 60-ball tournament called the Sixty Strikers Tournament, which will be played between October 4 and 14 at the University of Dallas. The ICC has already approved the tournament.
