Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar compared the importance of the Mumbai T20 League 2025 to that of the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying that the revamped league will do the same thing for Mumbai cricket, what the richest cricket league in the world did to Indian cricket.
Speaking at the jersey-launch event of the MSC Maratha Royals, Nayar, who is their mentor, said, “What the IPL did for Indian cricket, I think Mumbai T20 will do for Mumbai cricketers.”
Nayar, who played as an 'Icon' player in the T20 Mumbai League’s last edition, which was held way back in 2019, said that the league will provide a perfect opportunity for club cricketers to showcase their talent.
“You have club cricketers who have not represented Mumbai, not necessarily played at that level. They would now experience what it is to play at that level, experience what it is to play in a match that’s broadcast, and play at Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium under lights.”
“There are multiple aspects to it, and this tournament also financially helps a lot of cricketers to play this sport with a little more vigour,” he added.
