Former India coach to join Mumbai Indians as Malinga’s co-worker: Reports

Before joining the Indian team, Paras Mhambrey was part of the MI set-up as a bowling coach

Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, who was part of the regime shift from Rahul Dravid-led one to Gautam Gambhir-led one after the end of a successful T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, is all set to join the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians for the 2025 season.

If reports in Cricbuzz are to be believed, Mhambrey will be working alongside Lasith Malinga as MI’s bowling coach. The 52-year-old played two Tests and three ODIs for the national team and was part of the coaching staff of the side that made it to the final of the World Test Championship 2021-23, ODI World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024.

Among other members of the Dravid-led coaching staff, Vikram Rathour followed the former India captain and became the batting coach of the Rajasthan Royals where Dravid is now the head coach. T Dilip, the fielding coach, has continued with the national team under Gambhir.

As for Mhambrey, before joining the Indian team, he was part of the MI set-up in a similar capacity to a bowling coach. Since his departure from the league, the MI brand now owns three other cricket teams– MI Cape Town (SA20- South Africa), MI Emirates (ILT20- UAE) and MI New York (Major League Cricket- USA). It would now be up to Mahela Jayawardene, the former Sri Lankan captain heading the coaching staff of the MI group, to accommodate Mhambrey.
