Former Indian allrounder announces retirement from Indian limited overs cricket

Rishi Dhawan played three ODIs and a T20I for India apart from leading Himachal to their maiden Vijay Hazare title

Former India and Himachal Pradesh allrounder Rishi Dhawan has announced his retirement from Indian limited-overs cricket.

He last played for Himachal in the last group stage game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where they were knocked out. Notably, Dhawan led Himachal to their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy title in 2021/22.

He also played for India in 2016, where he played four international white-ball games, including three ODIs and one T20I game. He has also represented Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He took to his social media to announce his retirement through a statement.

“It's with a heavy heart, even though I have no regrets, that I'd like to announce my retirement from Indian cricket (Limited over). It's a sport that has defined my life for the past 20 years,” Dhawan said.

“This game has given me immeasurable joy and countless memories that will always stay very close to my heart," Dhawan said in his statement.

“From humble beginnings to representing my nation on the grandest stages, it has been a privilege beyond measure. Cricket has been my passion, and my reason for waking up every morning. I would like to thank all of my coaches, mentors, teammates, and support staff for your valuable contributions to shaping me into the person I am today.

“As I embark on this transitional chapter in my life, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. There are countless challenges to conquer, new dreams to pursue, and new opportunities to embrace. I am confident that the skills and values instilled in me by cricket will guide me in this next phase."

Dhawan will continue playing in the Ranji Trophy for Himachal Pradesh. He is the second-highest run-scorer for his team, with 397 runs at an average of 79.4, and has picked 11 wickets at 28.45. Himachal is currently second in Group B, and their chances to play in the Quarter-Finals are still alive in the red-ball format.
