Former Punjab Kings (PBKS) star Mayank Agarwal, who is also the captain of the Karnataka side in domestic cricket, replaced state teammate Devdutt Padikkal at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the franchise announced on May 7 (Wednesday).
Padikkal, the left-handed batter, was ruled out due to a hamstring injury and hence he was replaced by Agarwal.
Agarwal, who has experience of 127 IPL matches for five different teams, played for RCB at the start of his career, representing them on 29 occasions in IPL and six CLT20 matches. Overall, the right-handed batter has scored 2,661 runs at an average of 22.74 and a strike rate of 133.05.
Agarwal last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024.
It would be interesting to see if Agarwal finds a place in the playing 11, which Padikkal was a regular member of, having scored 247 runs in 10 matches. Agarwal will join RCB at his base price of INR 1 Cr.
Sediqullah Atal of Afghanistan was the second replacement named on the day, as he replaced Harry Brook in the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad.
