Last-minute changes for Australia, as Josh Inglis has failed to recover on time from his injury, with Josh Philippe named as his replacement for the first ODI against India, on October 14 (Tuesday). Philippe last played an ODI for Australia in 2021, where he made his 50-over impression as an opener.
Since then, the New South Welshman has never been on the radar before this year, where he has impressed the selectors with his display for Australia A against India A. Earlier this year, the right-hander smashed a stroke-filled century (red-ball) against India A, showing the required intent for a comeback.
Inglis isn’t the only blow for Australia, as they will also be without star spinner, Adam Zampa. Zampa and his wife, Harriet, are expecting their second child, with the leg-spinner wanting to spend more time with his wife. Zampa’s decision has paved the way for Matthew Kuhnemann, who has a stellar record against Virat Kohli.
Kuhnemann has been part of Australia’s plans over the last few years, travelling across with the contingent to various parts of the world, including playing in Sri Lanka and the West Indies. All-rounder Cameron Green is also set to play the first two ODIs – Perth and Adelaide – but could miss the third ODI in Sydney to get pace with the red-ball format ahead of the Ashes.
