Najmul Hossain Shanto’s lean run in T20Is has finally come to bite him as the former skipper was dropped from Bangladesh’s squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka starting July 10.
Shanto averaged only 18.84 in the 21 games in 2024, and even overall, his strike rate is only 109.06 in his T20I career. He has been replaced by left-handed opener Mohammad Naim, who has had a great domestic season in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman returned to the T20I side. Both are already playing the ODI series in Sri Lanka right now. Along with the two, Mohammad Saifuddin will also take part in the three-match T20I series.
Meanwhile, among the spinners, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed replaced Tanvir Islam.
The three matches will be played on July 10, July 13 and July 16.
