Former Australian skipper and batter Michael Clarke posted on his Instagram account informing that he has undergone surgery for skin cancer removal from his face. The 2015 ODI World Cup-winning skipper took the opportunity to also raise awareness about skin cancer, especially in Australia and advised people to get regular check-ups as early detection is critical in the treatment of skin cancer.
“Skin cancer is real! Especially in Australia. Another one cut out of my nose today. A friendly reminder to get your skin checked. Prevention is better than cure, but in my case, regular check-ups and early detection is key. So grateful that @drbishsoliman_ got it early,” Clarke wrote on his Instagram account.
Clarke, who played 115 Tests and 245 ODIs for Australia in his career that lasted more than a decade, has been suffering from skin cancer-related issues for some time now. He first got the cancer removed in 2006, which was right in the middle of his career for Australia. He had revealed about it in 2019, informing that he was diagnosed with three non-melanoma lesions in 2006.
Ever since then, he has been actively taking care of his skin and has also worked to raise awareness about skin cancer in Australia through organisations like the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation.
