Sanju Samson had a decent Asia Cup 2025, where he scored 132 runs at a strike rate of 124.52, as India went on to beat Pakistan in the final to clinch the title once again.
He showed his class once again in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 opener for Kerala against Maharashtra in Thiruvananthapuram on October 17 (Friday), where he slammed a quickfire fifty, after he walked in with his side in trouble at 35/3.
He smashed 54 off just 63 deliveries at a strike rate of over 85 in an innings that included five fours and a six. He was well supported by skipper Mohammed Azharuddeen (36 off 52), with whom he put on 57 for the fifth wicket.
Samson has also been picked for the T20I series against Australia, which will get underway from October 29 in Canberra. However, uncapped Dhruv Jurel was preferred ahead of him in ODIs.
At the time of writing this, Kerala were 183/6, with Salman Nizar and Ankit Sharma at the crease.
Earlier, Maharashtra were bowled out for 239, despite finding themselves in deep trouble at 5/4. Handy knocks from Ruturaj Gaikwad (91), Jalaj Saxena (49), Vicky Ostwal (38) and Ramakrishna Ghosh (31) saw them reach a competitive total.
They are now well within a shout to take the crucial first-innings lead, which they would take given the condition they were in on Day 1.
