From Dravid to Nehra: Reported coaching staff changes in IPL 2025

Teams such as Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders are likely to make changes to their coaching staff

Though the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is a good eight months away from its start and even the auction is quite far, the murmurs of changes in the coaching staff of various franchises are getting loud.

If Cricbuzz's reports are to be believed, then the Titans’ owners, CVC Capital, are not happy with the trio - Vikram Solanki, Director of cricket, Gary Kirsten, their mentor and head coach Ashish NehraSince Kirsten has already left to join the Pakistan national cricket team, former India bowler Nehra and Englishman Solanki might be next in line to leave the franchise.

CVC might be looking to shed part of the Titans’ ownership itself if not for the three-year lock-in period, and the Adani group might finally have a team in the IPL. But all those are unconfirmed reports as of now, with some pointing towards Yuvraj Singh as a possible coaching option.

What is slightly confirmed, though, is the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)’s interest in former Sri Lanka captain and current Rajasthan Royals (RR) coach Kumar Sangakkara. After Matthew Mott’s resignation as England’s white-ball coach, Sangakkara might be a front-runner for the job.

While those are still rumours, the reports have suggested that former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid could be RR's leading choice to tutelage the team in IPL 2025. With Dravid's experience at the international level combined with his former relationship with the Royals, it might be a true homecoming.

"I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling and it has been a job I have enjoyed,” Cricbuzz quoted Sangakkara.

Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, too, find themselves in a precarious position after the departure of Gautam Gambhir, Ryan ten Doeschate, Abhishek Nayar and Ricky Ponting. While KKR already have a head coach in Chandrakant Pandit, DC are still in need of a head coach before the 'expected' mega auction later this year.
