G Kamalini, Vaishnavi Sharma Included In Indian Squad For Home T20I Series vs Sri Lanka
The team features 13 out of the 15 players who were part of India's squad which recently won the ODI World Cup
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming home T20I series against Sri Lankan women, which includes five T20Is. It will be India’s first assignment after their historic ODI World Cup-winning campaign.
The 15 selected are largely similar to the 15 who played for India in the World Cup, with as many as 13 players being repeated. Only left-arm spinner Radha Yadav and reserve wicketkeeper Uma Chetry are missing from the side.
Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper G Kamalini, who had won the U19 World Cup last year, has replaced Chetry after a really successful Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, where she was the leading batter for her state with 297 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 110 while averaging 50.
Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma has been an absolute revelation after winning the U19 World Cup for India in early 2025, and picked 33 wickets in 14 innings in the Senior Women's T20 and Interzonal Trophy.
She was the leading wicket-taker in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy and the second leading wicket-taker in the Interzonals this year. Notably, she was the leading wicket-taker in the U19 World Cup as well.
The notable omission is batter Kiran Navgire, who was the leading run-scorer in the Interzonal trophy with 245 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 177.53. She had earlier also smashed 233 runs in seven innings in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy at a stellar strike rate of 235.35. Navgire could have been an interesting pick considering India have a T20 World Cup to play in England next year.
The series will begin from December 21, with the first two T20Is being played in Visakhapatnam and the remaining three in Trivandrum.
