Gaby Lewis, the newly appointed Ireland women's captain, keeps on adding milestone feathers to her already well-decorated hat. On January 10 (Friday), she became the highest run-scorer for her country after she smashed 92 against India in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
Lewis, who is already the highest run-scorer in WT20Is for the Irish team, overtook Miriam Grealey as the leading run-scorer in the 50-over format. While Grealey had scored 1412 runs in 73 innings, Lewis went past her in only her 50th match in Irish colours.
Lewis, who hit 15 fours in her 129-ball knock, before getting caught and bowled by Deepti Sharma, missed out on a century by just eight runs. Had she reached the milestone of 100, she would have become the first Irish woman to hit an ODI century against India.
Thanks to her 92, the Irish women managed to post 238/7 on the board, which is their second-highest ODI score in Asia and the highest in the 21st century in the continent.
