The fever of the Indian women’s team playing in the final of Women's World Cup 2025, caught up with the senior men’s team too. While the men’s team was chasing a tough 187 against Australia at Hobart on November 2 (Sunday), their head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with many other members of the side and the support staff, were seen watching the Women’s World Cup final on a laptop.
The picture, shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s official social media channels, quickly went viral as people shared it, to spread the craze about India finally winning a World Cup at home after 2011. People are still pained by the men’s team losing to Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
On the contrary, the women’s team defeated Australia in the semi-final by chasing a record target of 339 to get themselves into the final and thereby give themselves a chance to lift the trophy, a wish Indians have had for a long time.
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma, member of the Indian men’s team, had said that after the kind of win the women’s team had against Australia, they deserve to win the World Cup final.
The Indian men’s team, meanwhile, won the third T20I at Hobart to level the five-match series 1-1 with the first game being washed out.
