Ganguly quits ATK Mohun Bagan post amid conflict of interest storm: Report

Sourav Ganguly confirmed he had resigned as the director of the ISL side to avoid to conflict of interest

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday relinquished his position as the director of Indian Super League club ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB) to avoid conflict of interest, Cricbuzz said in a report. RPSG Group, which owns the football club, also won the bid for the Lucknow franchise in the Indian Premier League set to be introduced from the next edition.

"I have resigned," Ganguly told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the RPSG Group, refused to comment on the potential conflict of interest and said Ganguly only can answer the question.

The RPSG Group and Global Private Equity firm CVC Capital purchased the two new IPL franchises from Lucknow and Ahmedabad on Monday which led to Ganguly's position as the director of ATKMB being questioned.

Ganguly's role as both the BCCI president and the club director could've seen him violating the 'direct or indirect interest’ conflict rule under the BCCI constitution.

The rule states: "When the BCCI, a Member, the IPL or a Franchisee enter into contractual arrangements with entities in which the individual concerned or his/her relative, partner or close associate has an interest. This is to include cases where family members, partners or close associates are in position that may, or may be seen to compromise as individual’s participation, performance and discharge of roles."
