Long Break Will Give Us A Chance To Reset: GG Captain Ash Gardner
GG have seven days off and do not play until February 25
On the back of a resounding six-wicket win over UP Warriorz (UPW) in their previous clash, Gujarat Giants (GG) entered the clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) today hoping to make it two in two, but they instead slipped to a thumping defeat, with MI getting home with nearly four overs to spare.
It’s one thing to lose, but the manner of the defeat was damning, with MI barely breaking a sweat en route to an easy win.
Losing two in three to start off a big tournament is never ideal, but GG’s stand-in skipper, Ash Gardner, believes that the upcoming break will do a world of good for her side. GG have seven days off and do not play until February 25.
“We have a nice little break. Lots of time to reset. We have been talking about resetting and taking each game as it comes,” Gardner said at the post-match presentation.
Gardner put the defeat today down to GG’s inability to string partnerships together. On the night, the Giants did not have a single 50-run stand.
“We just lost wickets in clumps. We put a lot of onus on the top order to score a bulk of the runs but it wasn't to be,” Gardner said.
The GG skipper further reckoned that her side did not adapt to the conditions that was in front of them.
“Wicket played differently to the other two, but I don't think we necessarily adjusted fast enough. It seemed to be a little bit faster in the first ten overs. There was a bit of turn when the spinners came on and bowled slower. They bowled well, and we did not adjust fast.”
GG will next take on Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 25.
