The Australian all-rounder had a disastrous IPL 2025 with the bat, scoring just 48 runs in seven games, averaging a paltry 8.00. Not to forget, he wasn’t the best with the ball either, picking up just four wickets across 13 overs.
With his price tag being INR 4.2 crore, PBKS would be tempted to leave him in a trade deal. Which IPL teams could rival CSK for Maxwell?
CSK’s love for all-rounders is a well-known tale. Also, their ability to get the best out of players who aren’t the most consistent elsewhere is another famous fable. If you combine all of this, you can’t think of a better destination for Maxwell, who is still trying to find his lost form in the IPL.
Maxwell was at sizzling best during IPL 2023, scoring 400 runs for RCB, striking at 183.48. But the fall in form was such that he’s still finding his groove at the IPL level. Given that CSK are looking for a middle-order batter and someone who can bowl off-spin, Maxwell could be the perfect choice.
What was RR’s biggest weakness from their IPL 2025 campaign? Of course, the inability to finish games despite finding themselves in strong positions, time after time.
Do you see why Maxwell can be the perfect fit for them? Not only does he do a great job against spin bowlers, but he is also more than proficient towards the back end of the innings, which would deepen RR’s batting unit.
If you add his bowling to the list, Maxwell makes for the best fourth overseas option for RR.
At this point, you can add any overseas players to Gujarat’s trade list, and they would fit in. That’s been their strategy in IPL 2025, where they only featured three overseas players in the playing 11, as often Sherfane Rutherford was used as the impact player.
But that middle-order, as dynamic as it sounds, is as brittle. Last year, in the Eliminator clash against Mumbai Indians, the lower middle-order failed to get them over the line, which showed a glaring weakness in their strategy. If they want to lay their hands on another IPL title, then they should look at Maxwell more seriously than the other teams.
