Goa Batter Abhinav Tejrana has achieved a Ranji Trophy feat, which some of the greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have not. He smashed 205 off 320 deliveries against Chandigarh in Povorim to join an elite list of players who have scored a double century on Ranji Trophy debut.
The southpaw became the first batter from Goa to achieve this feat and, overall, the 13th player in Ranji Trophy history to do so, thereby joining the likes of Gundappa Viswanath and Amol Muzumdar. The last player to slam a Ranji Trophy double ton on debut was Saurashtra's Jay Gohil, when he smashed 227 off just 246 deliveries against Assam in 2022.
Tejrana was batting on 130 overnight and added another 75 runs to his score to reach a double century. Incidentally, his teammate Arjun Tendulkar slammed a century on debut in 2022, but could not turn that into a double.
Thanks to Tejrana's double century, Goa are in a commanding position. In the same match, Delhi Capitals (DC) all-rounder Lalit Yadav is also nearing a double ton. He was batting on 180 at the time of writing this, and Goa had reached 510/6.
Chandigarh off-spinner Vishy Kashyap has picked up all six wickets to fall so far.
