The Indian U19 women outscored South Africa to lift their second U19 World Cup title in a row. The defending champions were so dominant that India lost more than two wickets against a team only once, and even that game was won by 60 runs by the women in blue.
When asked what the secret behind such a dominant performance was, skipper Niki Prasad said that the key was focusing on the task and staying calm.
“All of us tried to stay calm, remained down to earth and stuck to doing our job," Niki said.
"We wanted to go out there and show what we can do. Thanks to the BCCI for giving us the best facilities. I'm feeling happy that I'm right here standing, making sure India stays on top. It's a special moment.”
The elated Indian skipper also expressed her happiness on India winning the trophy and said that they’ll look to create a legacy of winning ICC trophies for the country.
“Start of the tournament I mentioned we're here to dominate, to ensure India is here to stay on top. We’re definitly going to create that legacy of winning ICC trophies and winning a lot of trophies for India,” the Indian skipper said.
She also complimented the Proteas women for the spirit they showed throughout the competition.
“The South Africans have been playing really well, we've been playing against them for a long time, the character they've shown is nice to see, really nice to compete against them.”
Meanwhile, South African skipper Kayla Reyneke said that her side was quite emotional about not crossing the line; however, this performance will serve as a motivation for the future.
"Lot of emotions within the team but will not take anything away from this team and management, we've worked really hard for this moment," said the South Africa captain.
"Tough to not take the trophy home. Getting to our first-ever final is a proud moment, that's special. Cricket is a team sport, couldn't have done it without them and the management on the side. This is a motivation for us to come back stronger in 2027. Mum, dad - won't be coming home with the trophy, but I've got my medallion."
